    About Deborah

Deborah sees clients in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey (KT12 3LT), and online.

Hello, my name is Deborah Leaver and I am a fully qualified Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist. I offer a supportive and collaborative environment where we can work together to address challenges such as anxiety, depression, or significant life transitions. My approach is practical and warm, designed to provide you with a safe space to explore your thoughts and emotions while developing the resilience needed for lasting change.

I utilise an integrative approach, which means I draw on a wide range of evidence-based techniques tailored to your unique situation. At the core of my work is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), which allows us to identify and reframe negative thought patterns and break unhelpful behavioural cycles. By focusing on these structured methods, I can help you develop healthier coping mechanisms and reach your personal goals.

In our sessions, we will focus on empowering you to lead a more fulfilling and balanced life. While our work is goal-oriented, I also specialise in exploring how life experiences and communication styles affect your current relationships. Whether you are seeking support as an individual or as a couple, my focus is always on fostering a non-judgmental and empathetic partnership.

As a registered member of the BACP, I adhere to strict ethical guidelines and maintain ongoing professional development. This ensures that the therapy I provide is effective, up-to-date, and held to the highest professional standards.

    Meet Deborah

    Background & Experience

I hold a CPCAB Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and a Postgraduate Certificate in Couples Therapy and Counselling. My professional journey began in the corporate world as a Management Consultant, primarily in the legal sector, which gives me a unique understanding of the pressures and stresses inherent in professional environments.

Beyond my private practice, I have extensive experience supporting individuals through various charities, working with complex issues such as bereavement, domestic violence, and substance misuse. I remain committed to charity work to ensure therapy is accessible to those who need it most. My background across both the corporate and charitable sectors allows me to work effectively with people from all walks of life, including neurodiverse and LGBTQIA+ communities.

    How I Can Help

I'll teach you practical, evidence-based CBT techniques to challenge unhelpful thinking and manage difficult emotions effectively.

We will work together to understand your unique difficulties, whether it's anxiety, depression, or stress, and develop tailored strategies for lasting change.

I'll guide you in identifying and reframing negative thought patterns and developing new, healthier behaviours to improve your well-being.

I will help you build your resilience, enhance your coping skills, and empower you to navigate life's challenges with greater confidence and clarity.

“I was incredibly anxious about starting therapy and Deborah has been warm and welcoming from the start. In the few months I've been seeing her I've felt a real positive change within myself and I'm looking forward to future sessions.”

“The booking process was efficient with clear direction of where to go and with whom I would be best aligned. Deborah is welcoming, empathetic, and is immediately able to recognise and put a client's concerns into context. She makes it clear from the outset that her client will drive the conversation on the subject they wish to discuss, and she will listen, ask questions where appropriate, and advise to achieve collaborative solutions. I felt immediately 'untangled' and at ease. I continued the process over subsequent weeks which then dealt with contributing issues on the periphery of the reason for my initial visit. After each visit I left with a clear appreciation of Deborah's findings and thoughts from our discussion, which for me resulted in enhanced self awareness about how I might influence a situation, and be aware of how my actions or words may affect others in order to build strong relationships both with family and in the workplace moving forward. Deborah's instant understanding and subsequent input into the issues we discussed made me realise that it's very easy to be on a routined 'treadmill' in life which isn't always healthy. To take a step back, have these sessions with her and reflect on her advice having voiced my concerns has been invaluable. I would highly recommend her and the process of therapy to anyone, even if they didn't think they needed it! This would not be a wasted experience for anyone, and Deborah goes above and beyond to ensure that is the case.”
