Talking Therapy/CBT Dorking

Hello, my name is Ashleigh and I’m a fully qualified Psychotherapeutic Counsellor based at CBT and Counselling Dorking. I hold a Level 5 Professional Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling and i’m a accredited member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS).

My specialist area is adult therapy, offering  in-person sessions at my peaceful practice in Dorking or online via Zoom. I provide a safe, supportive, and confidential space to explore difficult thoughts, feelings, and behaviours that may be impacting your well-being. Emotional distress or unhelpful behaviours might be holding you back from the life you want, affecting your relationships, work, or sense of enjoyment in everyday activities.

Many challenges, such as stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, or grief, can be deeply painful but are also part of the human experience. With the right therapy, these difficulties can become more manageable. Therapy not only helps you feel better about yourself but also strengthens your communication and relationships. As you gain self-understanding, you’ll experience deeper connections and develop more effective ways to engage with those around you.

I take an Integrative approach to therapy. This means I draw upon a wide  range of tools to create a flexible, personalised experience tailored to your needs. I may incorporate key concepts from Person-Centred Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Psychodynamic Therapy. This will help you gain insight into your challenges while using practical techniques to support meaningful change. Alongside therapeutic models, I will also encourage you to explore your inner strengths, resilience and creativity, developing the skills and mindset needed to move forward with hope and confidence.

I welcome individuals from all backgrounds, including diverse sexual orientations and ethnicities

Background and Experience

My journey into therapy began around ten years ago when unresolved emotional challenges started affecting my well-being. As my self-awareness grew, I realised I needed to make significant changes in my life and relationships. Through counselling, I gained the clarity, strength, and tools to move forward. With a renewed sense of direction, I was able to leave an unfulfilling career and pursue a more authentic path. Which ultimately led me to study Psychotherapy and become a therapist.

One of my most rewarding experiences has been bereavement counselling at a local hospice, where I supported individuals facing terminal illness in coming to terms with their prognosis. Additionally, I worked with caregivers, offering a compassionate space to process the emotional toll and anticipatory grief of losing a loved one. Through these experiences, I developed a deep understanding of the complexities of grief and the importance of having a supportive environment.

Beyond Psychotherapeutic Counselling, I have a strong background in social care, working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to support individuals recovering from physical or mental health challenges. By focusing on empathetic, person-centred care, I have helped people regain independence and confidence in their daily lives, ensuring minimal risk and maximum autonomy.

How I Can Help You

  • A Person-Centred Approach – I provide a safe, accepting space where you can express yourself freely. This approach values your own insight and inner strength, helping you take the first steps toward healing.

  • A Personalised Plan – Progress is important. Together, we’ll create a flexible therapy plan tailored to your needs, drawing from different frameworks and tools to find the most effective approach. We’ll review and adjust as needed.

  • Building Self-Awareness – Using CBT techniques, we’ll identify unhelpful thought patterns that may be affecting emotions and behaviours. By shifting these patterns, you can develop a more balanced and constructive mindset.

  • Understanding the Past – Therapy can help uncover how early experiences shape current behaviours and emotions. Recognising these patterns is often key to healing past trauma and fostering emotional growth.

  • Practical Tools for Life – We’ll develop a personalised toolkit to manage emotions and behaviours effectively, This will strengthen resilience, relationships and overall well-being in both your personal and professional life.

Elcin Ambrose

Dorking Practice

CBT & Counselling Dorking

Hello, my name is Elcin (which is a female name) and I’m a fully qualified and experienced British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) registered therapist. I’m based at CBT and Counselling Surrey’s Dorking practice, overlooking the beautiful Surrey Hills. I hold a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and offer both short-term and long-term therapy for adults. You can book to see me either face-to-face or online, depending on what suits you best.

Perhaps you’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious, depressed, or stuck, I’m here to help. Life can throw unexpected challenges our way, and sometimes emotions like grief, guilt, trauma, or anger can feel too heavy to carry alone. I provide a safe, confidential space where you can explore these feelings and take steps towards improving your mental wellbeing.

I’m passionate about supporting my clients. I will gently help you uncover and challenge any unhelpful beliefs that may be holding you back, while guiding you towards developing tools to cope and grow. Together, we can work on helping you feel more empowered and back on track.

My approach to therapy

During our work together, I will tailor the therapy to meet your unique needs, drawing on a range of therapeutic approaches and techniques. You’ll have a safe, non-judgemental space where you can process your feelings, reconnect with your sense of self, and start moving forward in your life. Together, we’ll explore your internal experiences, helping you connect with your emotions and gain clarity around your thoughts and interpretations.

I frequently use the powerful techniques of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to guide individuals away from their negative thinking patterns.  CBT helps  work towards breaking vicious cycles, modifying dysfunctional beliefs and altering perceptions.

I’m here to help you break free from unhelpful viscious cycles by challenging negative thinking patterns and guiding you towards more constructive ways of viewing yourself and your world. We’ll work on modifying any beliefs that may be holding you back and creating healthier ways of thinking.

I’ll also help you reflect on how your past might be influencing how you feel now. I believe that by understanding these connections, you can reduce emotional struggles and build a greater sense of awareness and resilience.

No matter how challenging things feel right now, I believe in your ability to grow and thrive. I’ll support you in viewing yourself with compassion, encouraging self-reflection and self-acceptance, and helping you reach your full potential.

Background/Experience

My fascination with psychology began in my teenage years, as I felt drawn to a career that could truly make a difference in people’s lives. Among the many helping professions, I always felt a deep connection to becoming a therapist. After having my two children, I made the decision to leave my corporate sales career in London to pursue my lifelong dream of becoming a counsellor.

During and after completing my qualifications, I gained valuable experience working with Age UK, providing counselling to elderly individuals facing loneliness, grief, and age-related challenges. I also worked with a hospital-based foundation, offering therapeutic support to cancer patients and their families during difficult times.

Today,  alongside working with CBT and Surrey, I also run my own private practice whilst also working with a suicide bereavement foundation. Here I support individuals struggling with suicidal thoughts and families grieving the loss of loved ones to suicide.
