Hello, my name is Michelle and I am a fully qualified Therapist based at CBT and Counselling Surrey Guildford practice. I hold a Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling and I’m accredited by the MBACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists) and the UKRCP (United Kingdom Register for Counsellors and Psychotherapists)
Although I qualified as a Psychodynamic Therapist, I tend to work in a more eclectic and creative way. Which means I use a variety of different therapeutic approaches to suit your unique situation and individual needs. I frequently use the powerful techniques of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to help you examine how your thoughts and feelings shape your experiences. Whichever approach we use, my aim is to help you find a more positive way forward.
Perhaps it’s the first time you have sought therapy and you are wondering what to expect. Or maybe you have had counselling before. Whatever your situation, I do appreciate that it can take great courage to reach out for help. However, please rest assured, I create a warm, safe environment in order for you to feel comfortable enough to open up about what is going on for you. I will be there to listen to your experiences and help you process your experience and help you process this for yourself.
At the beginning of our first session, I’ll ask about your hopes and goals for therapy. It’s absolutely fine if you’re unsure or have mixed feelings – we can work together to bring clarity and focus to your therapy journey.
I work with a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, anger, bereavement, trauma, OCD, phobias, post-traumatic stress, work-related challenges, abuse, ADD/ADHD, and addiction.
I also have experience supporting individuals on the autism spectrum, those dealing with childhood-related challenges, and people managing chronic fatigue syndrome or ME.
In addition to this, I’m accredited in Counselling and Play Therapy for children age 3+
As an accredited member of MBACP and UKRCP and PTUK and ACC, I adhere to their ethical guidelines, ongoing supervision and CPD (Continual Professional Development) to ensure I provide the best possible service to my clients.

I integrate Gestalt, Transactional Analysis, Person-Centred Counselling, and Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) to tailor therapy to your individual needs. My focus is on helping you rediscover healthy coping mechanisms and address unhelpful thinking patterns. I might also use the tools of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to help you move forward by challenging and reframing negative thoughts and behaviours. While I primarily work with your present experiences, we can also explore past events to build self-awareness and self-compassion.
As a Humanistic Counsellor, I will empower you to connect with your inner strength to find your own path to a fulfilling life. I believe that a strong therapeutic relationship is fundamental to meaningful change and to helping you achieve your counselling goals. My approach is grounded in evidence-based practices, ensuring each journey is personalised to meet the unique needs of every person who walks through my door.
My journey began as a volunteer for the Kensington & Chelsea Befriending Service. I have experience working at Sam Beare and Woking Hospices, as well as The Fountain Centre in Guildford, supporting individuals dealing with bereavement and life-limiting illnesses. I’ve also provided counselling for members of “Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide” (SOBS) and worked with male and female survivors of rape and sexual abuse at the Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Centre (RASASC) in Guildford. Additionally, I’ve provided short-term counselling for anxiety and depression through the NHS.
With 25 years of experience in government organisations, including leadership roles, I gained valuable insight into managing staff and coping with corporate stress. I draw on this experience to support those facing work-related stress and corporate pressures in my counselling practice.
