Welcome, my name is Jolanta Lovelock and I’m a fully qualified, highly experienced Integrative Counsellor who works with adults, couples and young people age 16+. I hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology and Level 5 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling. I’m also a Registered Member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy).
I welcome individuals from all walks of life, including those coming from the diverse social, ethnic, cultural and religious background and LGBTQIA+. Along with neurodiversity, such as ADHD, Autistic Spectrum, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, etc) and people with other learning and physical disabilities.
My therapy sessions can be conducted in either English or Polish.
Being an Integrative counsellor means that I might draw upon a wide range of modalities. such as: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Person-Centred Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Gestalt, Self-Compassion Mindfulness, Life Coaching and/or Solution Focused Therapy. I believe that these variety of tools help us find the best way forward in managing any unhelpful thoughts, feelings and behaviours that might be contributing to your problems or you, overwhelmed and not in control of your life.
I work in a relational way, so it’s important that you feel safe and comfortable with me. I understand how much courage it takes to open up, especially if this is your first time in therapy or if you’ve had a difficult experience in the therapy in the past.
The foundation of the therapy I offer is a compassionate, caring, safe, confidential, and non-judgmental space. Here, you’ll learn new skills, identify your goals, resolve issues and gain insight into yourself and how to manage your challenges. An important aspect of therapy involves doing work between sessions, which includes practising new skills, self-reflection, self-care, and journaling. I will guide you through everything, ensuring you feel comfortable with these activities and understand the value of doing them at your own pace.
Being a member of the BACP means I adhere to their ethical guidelines and have ongoing supervision and CPD (Continual Professional Development). This ensures the service I provide to my clients is the best possible.
I am DBS checked and hold Indemnity Insurance.
I’m originally from Poland but have lived in the UK for over 30 years. As an emigrant, I experienced first-hand the challenges of adapting to a new culture, learning a new language, and navigating life transitions—experiences I share with many of my clients. My passion for understanding people, their relationships, and their environments has always driven me to help others.
After completing my MA in Special Educational Needs and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), I pursued a 20-year career in teaching and mentoring at various London colleges. This enabled me the opportunity to work with individuals from diverse ethnic, cultural, and social backgrounds, dealing with a range of issues including relationships, sexual identity, family problems, abuse, addiction and many other mental health concerns.
Inspired to make a deeper impact, I completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology and transitioned into counselling. Over the past nine years, I have worked as a counsellor at Kingston University, Kingston Women’s Centre, and in private practice. I now run my own counselling practice in Surbiton, offering support for a wide range of issues.
I work with individuals facing a wide range of issues, including stress, anxiety, OCD, anger and depression. I’m also experienced in the effects of trauma, sexual abuse, neglect, domestic abuse and work-related challenges, to name but a few.
Depending on your concerns you and your expectations/goals you have I will try to help you better understand your emotions, thoughts, behaviours, motivations, values, and life ambitions. Together, we’ll work on managing unhelpful patterns, so you feel more empowered and confident.
If you are navigating life challenges or relationships due to neurodiversity or suspected neurodiversity. I will support you in understanding and accepting your condition. We’ll work on building self-confidence and managing anxieties or depression with self-compassion.
Many people come to me with specific relationship issues, whether in work, family, or romantic settings. Together, we’ll explore your options and establish clear goals to resolve these challenges.
There is no one-size-fits-all approach to therapy, as everyone experiences challenges in their own unique way. My role as a therapist is to provide a safe space for you to express yourself and offer techniques to help you gain new perspectives and approaches to life’s difficulties.
