Qualifications
My passion for Psychology began during my university studies. Although life initially took me into a career as a personal stylist, I discovered my true calling through the meaningful conversations I had with people about their lives and challenges. Ten years ago, I returned to education to retrain as a counsellor.
During my training, I completed a clinical placement at a specialist centre supporting female survivors of domestic abuse. This experience, alongside training in ‘The Freedom Program’ inspired me to specialise as a trauma-informed therapist. This is a path I continue to follow with dedication.
These experiences have deepened my understanding of the challenges people face and fuelled my commitment to providing a safe, supportive space for personal growth.
A Safe and Supportive Space: I create a calm, welcoming environment where you can explore whatever feels most important; free from judgment.
Person-Centred Therapy: Using person-centred existential methods, I will help you work through your challenges whilst you stay in control of your therapy goal.
Addressing a Range of Issues: I offer support with proboems such as depression, anxiety, anger and /or relationship challenges. Along with issues around low self-esteem, work-related concerns, traum and sexuality
Exploring Beliefs and Meanings: Together, we’ll examine the meanings and beliefs you hold about yourself and the world. Then we will work on replacing those that no longer serve you to create a more fulfilling life.
Trauma and Abuse Support: I provide a safe, non-judgmental space to explore experiences of abuse or violence, whether current or historical, at your own pace.

Hello, I’m Dilek, a fully qualified therapist at CBT and Counselling Guildford. I hold a BA Honours Degree in Integrative-Relational Counselling and specialise in individual therapy for adults of all ages. As a registered member of the BACP and BAATN, I welcome everyone with compassion and without judgement. My aim is to provide a warm, safe space where you can relax and be yourself
Focusing on your needs isn’t selfish—it’s a generous act of self-care. Counselling provides a unique anchor and safe space to belong and be yourself. It’s a space to navigate your experiences, thoughts, and feelings. Whether facing current challenges or past events that impact happiness, I’m here to support you. Together, we’ll explore and understand your past to shape a brighter future.
During our therapy sessions, I will draw upon my training and experience in Integrative Relational Psychotherapeutic Counselling, Internal Family Systems (or “Parts work”), and Deep Brain Reorienting (particularly for trauma). This allows me to tailor an approach that best suits your unique needs. I integrate various methods, including Person-Centred, Psychodynamic, Existential, Relational, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and mindfulness-based approaches.
Im passionate about Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy. This is because it offers a gentle, respectful way to connect with often-unheard parts of ourselves. IFS encourages individuals to explore their inner world with compassion, understanding that each part—whether anxious, protective, or critical—serves a purpose and has positive intentions. This approach helps create space for genuine self-acceptance and strengthens the connection to a resilient, compassionate self. I find that IFS empowers clients to experience deep, lasting healing and authentic growth.
No matter which therapeutic approach we choose, I’m here as one human being reaching out to another—with compassion and without judgment. Together, we can build a strong alliance where you feel safe, connected, affirmed, and validated. I’ll be by your side every step of the way, supporting and encouraging you to make the changes needed for positive growth, empowering you to live the life you truly want.
Hello and welcome! My name is Ellen and I’m a fully qualified and experienced integrative therapist for both individual and couples based at CBT and Counselling Cobham. I have a Diploma in Narrative Therapy and a Post Graduate Diploma in Relationship Therapy. I am also a registered member of the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) so therefore adhere to their ethical guidelines.
My training was ‘integrative’ which means that I studied various models of counselling. This enables me to draw upon many different therapeutic approaches in order to meet your unique needs. I work in a confidential, sensitive way in an environment that is warm, relaxed, non-judgemental and fully supportive.
Narrative Therapy, sees you as the expert on your own life, with your challenges viewed as separate from who you are. This approach helps you understand how your issues affect your life, providing a fresh, outside perspective. It’s a respectful, non-blaming style of therapy that recognises how you make sense of life through your relationships and personal stories.
I see problems as responses to life’s challenges, not as part of who you are—you are not the problem! Together, we’ll identify the changes you want to make and how to achieve them. I’ll actively listen, engage fully, and offer helpful tools as needed, participating in our conversations rather than sitting passively.
I have extensive experience helping people with anxiety, depression, self-esteem challenges, relationship issues, trauma recovery and more. People who have consulted with me have told me they feel at ease, comfortable and supported in our sessions and appreciate the insights they gain through counselling—insights that empower them to make meaningful, positive changes in their lives and relationships.
I am originally from Seattle, Washington, USA and have lived in London and Surrey for over 40 years. I began my counselling career working with families and couples as well as individuals, providing me with invaluable insights into relationships.
Prior to becoming a Counsellor, I worked in the City where I gained extensive knowledge and experience of relationships in the workplace and the pressures and stresses of working in business. I was a Counsellor for Relate from 2008-13 and in private practice since 2013. I am the mother of adult twin daughters.
Respectful Listening and Active Support. I will listen to your stories and hopes with respect, compassion, and without judgement. Rather than simply being a sounding board, I will take an active role, offering insights, observations, and practical tools to help you achieve meaningful change.
Flexible pacing – I will work with you and at your pace. We will talk about what is important for you to talk about, rather than me setting the agenda.
Collaborative and Adaptive Approach – I take a collaborative approach, regularly checking ensuring that our work together is on track for what you wish to achieve.. Often, the focus of the work changes and evolves over the course of counselling and I will check with you that things are moving in directions that you’re finding helpful.
Flexible to Fit Your Schedule – I will be flexible in accommodating your schedule and lifestyle. Therefore, offering sessions at convenient times and adjusting frequency as needed. I will accommodate your individual requirements for the counselling process based on what is helpful for you.
Understanding Problems with Empathy – I see challenges as the result of complex factors outside of ourselves that we are trying to navigate, not personal failings. This approach allows us to explore solutions with empathy and perspective.

I incorporated various methods during my therapy, beyond just talking – such as imagery, body awareness, and sandtray as it offered clients a safe, containing ways of exploring, expressing and resolving their feelings. This approach has proven transformative, often helping clients reconnect with their capacity for playfulness, problem-solving skills and delight in the world. I have also developed training in these techniques for other counsellors.
After relocating within London, I counselled individuals with vision impairments, taught creative writing, and launched a private psychotherapy practice., supporting clients in managing anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, childhood trauma, body image issues, and eco-anxiety, among other challenges.
My practice has been enriched by diverse experiences, including parenting, living in France for three years, co-founding an improvisational theatre company, volunteering with an anxiety charity, and engaging in spiritual practices. I’m increasingly interested in how environmental issues affect mental well-being.

I have experience working at Sam Beare and Woking Hospices, as well as The Fountain Centre in Guildford, supporting individuals dealing with bereavement and life-limiting illnesses. I’ve also provided counselling for members of “Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide” (SOBS) and worked with male and female survivors of rape and sexual abuse at the Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Centre (RASASC) in Guildford. Additionally, I’ve provided short-term counselling for anxiety and depression through the NHS.
With 25 years of experience in government organisations, including leadership roles, I gained valuable insight into managing staff and coping with corporate stress. I draw on this experience to support those facing work-related stress and corporate pressures in my counselling practice.
